G4S Supports Businesses During the G20 Summit in Toronto

In June, G4S Canada supported more than 110 businesses in downtown Toronto to help them prepare effectively for the recent G20 summit. The G4S Security team’s solution began with an awareness raising of the event with major property owners throughout the yellow and red G20 summit exclusion zones on the likely impact of the global event.

The G4S team responded to property owners’ challenges by working with them on risk assessments, security plans and all customers’ operational and technological security requirements.

More than 500 fully trained G4S security personnel serviced 110 client sites to provide protection to employees, residents and property. G4S established a Command Centre in the downtown core which linked the team to regular Toronto police reports and enabled monitoring of protester activity and protest blogs.

It also allowed G4S to utilise its G4S Mobil-Guard incident management system which is downloaded to handheld electronic devices which allows G4S personnel allows security or patrol officers to create real-time incident and daily officer reports that emailed to pre-determined client contacts on a site by site basis.

The G4S Command Centre also formed the central hub for all G4S patrols and officers. To improve patrol efficiencies and due to congestion, G4S used bike and foot patrols. This ensured a steady flow of communication with clients, officers and police. G4S had supervisors located at key locations throughout the core of the city providing real time updates on people and protester movement to clients and liaising closely with Toronto Police on incident information.

G4S guards assisted with a theft prevention at the H&M store on Queen Street  The G4S G20 team were also responsible for security of three key banks in the core, Union Station, the hospital district as well as several retail stores in the Eaton Center, as well as the Eaton Center itself.   G4S also covered several retail stores on the Queen Street strip and had guards protect the store located in front of the second police car fire on Queen with no damages to the store.

Congratulations to G4S for a job well done!
